WEBINAR VIA ZOOM

Webinar: Coral Bleaching & Restoration Breakthroughs

As a valued supporter of the Sapphire Project, with shared passions for coral reefs, we invite you to join us for a webinar to learn about the current state of coral bleaching on the Great Barrier Reef and the solutions available.

"It's looking like the entirety of the Southern Hemisphere is probably going to bleach this year... We are literally sitting on the cusp of the worst bleaching event in the history of the planet.” - NOAA ecologist, Derek Manzello

What does this mean for corals, and what steps are scientists at the Academy taking to mitigate bleaching damage?

Dr Luiz Rocha, the California Academy's Curator and Follett Chair of Ichthyology, is traveling into the field for a first-ever dive in the Great Barrier Reef’s mesophotic zone. He will see first-hand the damaged reefs, those displaying resilience, and collect specimens so that we may better understand natural resilience.

Join us for a special conversation with Dr Luiz Rocha and Dr Cédric Robillot, Executive Director for the Reef Restoration and Adaptation Program, who will discuss their efforts in monitoring and responding to coral bleaching in the Great Barrier Reef.
